New API client creation workflow
The new API client creation workflow includes these changes:
- Simplified API client provisioning with Quick and Advanced options
- Ability to create an API client across all Akamai API types
New workflow benefits include:
- The Quick option instantly creates an API client and a credential for the Akamai APIs you can access. This client’s API access levels, group roles, and permissions are identical to yours. You may still edit clients and remove groups and APIs to restrict its access.
- The Advanced option lets you create an API client, restrict groups, and API access all in a single page view. This is an improvement from the wizard in the legacy workflow as the focus is now on APIs rather than groups.
- An API client can select all APIs. Different API types no longer exist. All clients will have a single domain: luna.akamaiapis.net.
- Existing API clients with different domain names will continue to work as expected.
- Editing existing API clients will also be a simpler flow in a single page.
For details, see the documentation and Akamai Community.
Identity and Access Management Application Enhancements
Enhancements include:
- A new Search field is added to the Role creation window, which is larger now.
- In the user profile screens, Preferred language is renamed to Language & region.
- A new field called Notification list is added to API clients, and is used to send credential expiration emails. For existing clients, the notification list is populated with the owner and creator of the API client. You can now add an email distribution list to receive API clients credential expiration notifications.
- When a new API client is created, an email notification is sent to the owner of the API client.
- If the owner of an API client is locked, the owner’s name and [locked] appears on the Identity and Access Management landing page to easily identify and address the issue.
- The Identity Management API v2 is a new and expanded API that lets you manage API credentials for your API client and other API clients. It offers a simpler interface, making {clientId} optional. This greatly enhances the ability to automate credential expiration monitoring and rotation. The API is automatically accessible to all new and existing API clients.
- All Identity and Access Management events have the prefix IAM so you can easily locate them on Event Viewer.
- Bug fixes.

The latest Property Manager update includes six new rulesets for Ion Premier and five new rulesets for DSA, which appear by default when you configure a new property. These new rulesets encompass 63 configuration changes compared to the previous default settings, in order to help you instantly optimize performance with Akamai-recommended settings. The rulesets are organized in a clean structure, making it easier to understand and maintain your properties’ behaviors. These new default rules help you efficiently onboard new properties and leverage best practices for modern websites, apps, and APIs. The rulesets include:
- Augment insights. Settings related to monitoring and reporting.
- Accelerate delivery. Settings related to improving the performance of delivering objects to your users.
- Offload origin. Settings related to caching content at the edge and in the browser.
- Strengthen security. Settings that minimize the information your website shares with clients and malicious entities to reduce your exposure to threats.
- Increase availability. Settings that control responding when your origin or third parties are slow or even down to minimize the negative impact on user experience.
- Minimize payload. Settings that reduce the size of the delivered content and decrease the number of bytes sent by your properties.
If you want to configure your properties with the previous default settings, access the classic settings via the Add Rule button while configuring a property. These classic rulesets include:
- Default (classic). Includes the legacy (prior to 2020) default configuration settings.
- Offload (classic). Includes the legacy (prior to 2020) offload configuration settings.
- Performance (classic). Includes the legacy (prior to 2020) offload configuration settings.
The changes will be available for Ion Standard in an upcoming release.
