Tiered Distribution and AMD

Tiered distribution is automatically added as a best practice. It lets AMD retrieve your cached content from another mid tier of servers closer to your origin server, rather than directly from your origin server.

It is automatically enabled as a best practice and optimized by the Origin Characteristics mandatory behavior. After adding Origin Characteristics, the following applies to an existing configuration, in regards to Tiered Distribution:

  • If your configuration already contains the Tiered Distribution behavior: If you have it included as a separate behavior (and you have it enabled), remove it (mouse-over the behavior and click the X icon). It will remain enabled as a Best Practice via Origin Characteristics. The warning notes in the Behavior itself, as well as in the Errors/Warnings/Notes Messages Display are informational, only can be ignored.
  • If you don't want Tiered Distribution enabled: You need to add Tiered Distribution as an optional behavior (Add Behavior > Tiered Distribution > Insert Behavior) to the Default Rule and explicitly set its Enable slider switch to Off. This overrides the best practice, and an informational warning message will be displayed in the Behavior stating such. (This can be ignored.)
