Last Mile Acceleration (LMA)

As your content travels from the edge server to your users, the final leg of content delivery is known as the last mile. Content delivery tends to be slowed most at the last mile, particularly for users who are browsing on mobile devices. LMA accelerates data through the last mile by compressing the content into a gzip format, or serving already compressed content to users. LMA saves time in content delivery transit, which helps performance and total volume of data transmitted, as well as associated costs.

When the origin server serves the content uncompressed, Akamai compresses it in a gzip format. However, if the origin server serves the content compressed, Akamai doesn’t compress it yet again. Instead, the content is served compressed as it was received from the origin.

Enable this setting if you want to use the LMA feature.
