Real User Monitoring (RUM)

Real User Monitoring (RUM) monitors the real performance of web pages by your end users, to help you ensure that they’re having the best experience. This is an important supplement to synthetic performance testing (such as, for example, WebPagetest) because it shows how your site performs on the full range of devices, browsers, and network conditions that’s seen in the real world.

Akamai enables RUM by default so you can monitor and collect this data. If you disable the feature, you won’t be able to see how well your site’s performing in real time from the user’s point of view.

After going live, follow the Real User Monitoring Guide steps to view RUM data results, and also to customize where and how RUM functions on your site.
