My Synthetic Tests Don’t Match the User Experience

After you have collected RUM data and have determined the baseline performance for your URL(s), you may need to revise your synthetic tests.
Note: Synthetic test data may often show faster times than RUM data because synthetic tests simulate ideal conditions. In addition, as RUM provides real data and looks at users across a wide range of user devices and connection types, the times reported by RUM will vary more than your synthetic test results.

When revising your synthetic tests:

How to

  1. Generate reports for:
    • The dimensions most closely aligned to your existing synthetic tests
    • Time periods with normal levels of traffic
    • Time periods with peak levels of traffic
  2. For the RUM dimension values that most closely match your existing synthetic tests, compare the RUM report results against your synthetic test settings.
