What is supported with MSP?

What you can and can't use in Media Security Policy (MSP) varies, based on the media format, the delivery format, and how you combine the security features offered in MSP. You should understand what is supported before you configure a security policy.

What media formats are supported?

  • Adobe HTTP Dynamic Streaming (HDS) v1: This includes live and on-demand delivery format media.
  • Apple HTTP Live Streaming (HLS) v1: This includes live and on-demand delivery format media.
  • Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP (MPEG-DASH, DASH): This format is not supported with MSP.
Note: Similar security services for DASH and later versions of HDS and HLS are available with the Adaptive Media Delivery (On Demand) and Media Services Live products. Contact your Akamai account representative for complete details.

Can I combine security services in a single policy?

MSP allows you to create a single policy, combine multiple security services within it, and apply the policy to a single Media Services configuration of media/player components. This table outlines the possible combinations, and offers support details for both On Demand (MSOD) and Live (MSL) streaming content.
