Specify encoder details

In the Encoder Settings page, specify how you want the best performing entrypoint to be selected. Entrypoints are recalculated based on information about the network latency, network loss, geographic location, and entrypoint load and status in case of eviction. This best-effort mapping is done to ensure that your encoder will broadcast to the optimal performing entrypoint according changing network conditions.

How to

  1. For live streams, you need a user account to connect to the entrypoint servers on the Akamai streaming network and push your live streams. Enter your Username. Your Username is your CP code. Optionally, specify the password in the Password field. If left blank, Akamai automatically generates a password for you.
The following example shows the Username 8587.
After you complete your configuration and save it, if you want to retrieve this information, go to the MSL dashboard and click the stream name to display the Edit stream page. Click Encoder Details to view the stream information (including the user name).
  2. Select one of the following Encoder Type options.
    • Use Nameserver to select an Akamai Entrypoint - When you select this, the mapping system identifies the best-performing entrypoint using the encoder name server.
    • Manual Configuration - This is the default option. When you select this, the mapping system identifies the best-performing entry point from many of the network entrypoints using the encoder IP address you enter in the UI. Use either the encoder IP address itself or a nearby IP address. If you select this option, you should enter the following information:
      • Primary Encoder IP / Ping Proxy - If your encoder is pingable, enter your encoder IP address. Otherwise, enter a pingable IP address of a nearby encoder. Akamai will briefly ping this IP address to determine the best possible entrypoint server for your stream. If your encoder is behind a firewall or another barrier, you can use the firewall’s IP address here. This is called a ping proxy. This enables the system to ping and determine the best entrypoint server on the Akamai streaming network.
      • Backup Encoder IP / Ping Proxy - Enter a backup encoder IP address if you encoder is pingable. Otherwise, enter a pingable IP address of a nearby encoder. Akamai will briefly ping this IP address to determine the best possible entrypoint server for your stream. You can enter your firewall IP address. This enables the system to ping and determine the best entrypoint server on the Akamai streaming network.
