The “mv” command

Use this command to rename a single file, or move a single/multiple files.

With this command the following points apply:

  • Any Directory Named within a Path for a Rename or Move Must Preexist (CMShell will not automatically create non-existent directories. If applicable, see The “mkdir” Command for details on creating a directory)
  • Only Files can be Targeted as a <SOURCE> for a Rename/Move (Directories/sub-directories can not be renamed or moved)

Available options

Note: The <OPTION> variable displayed in the above examples can be populated with any of the following options:
Option Description
-i, --interactive Ask before overwriting existing files.
-v, --verbose Display the operation’s execution step by step.
-h, --help Display help information for this command.
